Early Trauma and Consequences
HEALING COMPLEX TRAUMA IS THE FUTURE IN COMBATING MANY MENTAL AND PHYSICAL PROBLEMS, SUCH AS DISEASE, VIOLENCE, INJUSTICE.
Adverse childhood experiences (ACE), also known as developmental trauma or complex trauma, affect a large percentage of the population and are not unusual.
Trauma is among the major contributing factors which cause emotional dysregulation and its associated disorders, and which in turn can result in numerous physiological and psychological problems, compulsive addiction, and/or self-destructive behaviors.
The impact of early traumatic experiences is one of the greatest public health challenges and the cause of many mental and physical illnesses. Early childhood trauma, for example, affects self-control, self-esteem, and the ability to form relationships.
Long-term research on attachment behavior suggests that certain early attachment experiences can promote or disrupt emotional well-being, social competence, and cognitive functioning and resilience.
Parents or caregivers may simply be deeply involved in their own lives, are suffering themselves, or are too depressed to relate to their children in reliable, reassuring, and supportive ways.
The effects of parental rejection can have a lasting impact on a child's psychological development. Pain from parental rejection or disaffirmation continues into adulthood.
The tendency not to be able to develop trusting relationships, or to develop only distant relationships that do not last, is only one of many possible effects.
Have you ever considered these questions?
- If I say no to other people, do I feel guilty?
- If I am not at the top, am I not worth anything?
- Do I have to look perfect or be perfect to get recognition?
- Do my own needs not deserve to be expressed?
- Do I have trouble setting boundaries or saying no directly?
- Do I sometimes feel like I don't really belong anywhere?
- Do I feel uncomfortable in connection with others?
- Do I sometimes feel that I can't rely on anyone or that I always have to be in control?
- Do I put myself under constant pressure or suffer from permanent stress?
- Do I suffer from concentration problems in combination with physical symptoms?
Through trauma we are disconnected from our own immense life force.
For most people, the consequences of traumatic events can manifest themselves in the form of symptoms, for example, normal everyday illnesses, asthma, diabetes, cardiovascular problems, rheumatism, tension, depression, headaches, stress, chronic illnesses, sleep disorders, anxiety, burnout, etc.
Under chronic stress, the organism gradually loses its natural ability to self-regulate.
The consequences of trauma can be healed.
